Abstract
In everyday life, humans carry out various activities that cause waste/garbage as a result of their activities. Garbage if allowed to accumulate and not managed will have a negative impact on environmental conditions, human health conditions and ecosystems. Pasirian Subdistrict has the largest population in Lumajang Regency and has the nickname as the Second City because of increased economic development, so it has the potential to become the largest waste contributor. Various kinds of government efforts to reduce waste generation and create a clean environment include the enactment of regulations related to waste management and the implementation of the waste bank program The current pattern of waste management in Pasirian District is still not running optimally, due to low public awareness in managing waste, service coverage that has not touched rural areas and the lack of institutions/organizations that handle solid waste. The purpose of this study is to identify an overview of community-based waste management and provide recommendations for determining the appropriate alternative waste management method to be applied using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Based on the result of AHP analysis from 30 respondents indicate that the appropriate alternative management method applied is household-scale waste management (sorting & composting) followed by waste management with the waste bank concept, with a weight of 0.336 higher than other alternative methods. From the 3 criteria, environmental aspects are considered more important to consider in determining waste management methods 0.610, socio-cultural 0.227 and economic 0.163. From the 9 sub-criteria, most priority is the potential for the spread of diseases due to waste with a weight of 0.237.
